Sterlingshire is among the growing list of California communities which are taking steps to reduce the risk of devastating wildland fires by developing strategies to make their homes and neighborhoods more ignition-resistant. Some 800 communities in the state have received Firewise USA recognition, a program administered by the National Fire Protection Association, and Sterlingshire has begun the process to join that list. Individuals and communities participate strictly on a volunteer basis and receive the recognition after completing specified tasks, including writing and implementing a three-year community action plan.
